Indigo Research Experience

We’ve created a four-module program for high school research to guide you through the key phases of the research process, from outlining ideas to publishing your findings.

Module 1
Foundations
Learn the fundamentals of the research process alongside research methods in the chosen field.
Module 2
Theory
Learn theory related to your subject, read and discuss research papers specific to your field alongside your mentor.
Module 3
Research
Work 1:1 with your mentor to outline, develop, and complete either a literature review or a full-length research paper.
Module 4
Publication
Get writing support and insights into the publishing process so that you can submit your work to academic journals, conferences, competitions etc.

Description
Explorer
The Explorer Program emphasises fundamental research skills, designed for students with no prior research experience. Students will receive lectures on research foundations, explore research methods in their chosen subject area, and complete a paper ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 words. Additionally, students will gain access to a subject-specific journal venues and competitions database.
Researcher
The Researcher Program is typically recommended for students aged 15 and above. Students in this program will undertake the completion of a full-length research paper ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 words and receive one-on-one publication support. Additionally, students will have access to a subject-specific journal venues and competitions database.
Innovator
The Innovator Program is our most comprehensive initiative, providing an experience akin to university-level research. Throughout the 11-month duration, students will work closely with their research mentors, engaging in original data collection, data analysis, and producing a paper exceeding 5,000 words. Additionally, students will receive robust publication support from their mentors.
Hours & Duration
10 hours of one-on-one sessions delivered over the course of 13 weeks.
20 hours of one-on-one sessions delivered over the course of 23 weeks.
45 hours of one-on-one sessions delivered over the course of 48 weeks.
Outcomes
STEM & Social Sciences: Literature review (1,000 - 2,000 words) or science communication essay (700 - 1,500 words).
Humanities: Short academic essay (close reading) or submission to essay competition (1000 - 2000 words), Book Review (1,000 - 1,500 words) or Blog Posts (500 - 1,000 words).
STEM & Social Sciences: Literature review, empirical study, or research paper (2,000 - 4,000 words) involving data analysis.
Humanities: Seminar paper involving primary and secondary sources (2000-4000 words) or a creative composition with a companion essay.
STEM & Social Sciences: Research paper involving data collection and analysis (+ 5,000 words).
Humanities: Research paper involving primary, archival, and or secondary sources (+ 5,000 words) or a creative composition (e.g., a collection of poems) with a companion essay.
